‘Birthday Candles’ arises out of the selection of seedlings of B spinulosa sown on the applicants property at Montrose. Selection was made at flowering in 1985 on the basis plant growth form and flowering characteristics. Granted Plant Breeders Rights on 29 October 1990, current status - expired
Characteristics
Compact dwarf shrub with outstanding display of red and yellow cones from March to September
Cultivation
Banksia ‘Birthday Candles’ is considered to have a climatic tolerance ranging from subtropical to cool temperate and semi-arid. It is moderately tolerant of frost and highly tolerant of salt laden wind.
