ACRA Cultivar Registration

To register a cultivar with ACRA you need to fill in the ACRA Aplications Form for Cultivar Registration. Note you will need to register to log into this site if you haven't already done so (follow the registration instructions on the login page).

This new form has been designed to make it easier for applicants to complete their submissions and improve processing efficiency.

The purpose of the form is to gather all the information necessary to develop a profile for each variety/cultivar for registration.

The fees are $99.00 by bank transfer or if this is not possible or not preferred, a cheque for $110.00 will be acceptable. An invoice will be sent when the herbarium specimen has been received. The fees charged cover some of the costs of storing and processing herbarium specimens. Fees may be waived for Australian Native Plant Society Study Groups (ANPS).

Requirements for registration:
  • the application has been completed
  • a fresh flowering herbarium specimen has been received (if your cultivar/variety has not flowered yet other arrangements may be made). Information about preparing a herbarium specimen can be found at: https://www.anbg.gov.au/cpbr/herbarium/good-specimen.html
  • photo/s have been received
  • colour coding completed
  • payment has been completed

When the cultivar/variety has been accepted for registration photos and description will be posted on the ACRA website.

Notes

  • In most cases, the applicant will be the Originator and/or the Introducer.
  • The fresh flowering specimen will be used for confirming/determining the identity of the variety, for colour coding and for use as a herbarium specimen.  Plant material should be stored in a large press sealed plastic bag with a small amount of water (a couple of short sprays) to keep it fresh and be mailed preferably by express post to arrive as soon as possible. Try to send early in the week.
