Origin
Grevillea 'Goldrush' is thought to be a cross between G. alpina and G. rosmarinifolia from near Ararat in Victoria. The selection was made by Plant Growers Australia Pty Ltd in the early 1980's. The name was selected as it refers to the colour of the flowers and because Ararat was part of the original Victorian goldfields. The cultivar was first received by the Authority in July 1985. Registration was applied for by Plant Growers Australia Pty Ltd of Park Orchards, Victoria.
Characteristics
This cultivar is a small shrub to 0.8m tall by up to 1m wide. It flowers in winter with yellow to pinkish flowers and a red style, though the colours are subdued. The foliage is superficially like Grevillea 'Austraflora McDonald Park' Diagnosis: Grevillea 'Goldrush' is readily distinguished by the flower colour. The flower colour is more subdued than Grevillea 'Austraflora McDonald Park'. Grevillea 'Goldrush' is similar in flower to Grevillea alpina 'Grampians Gold' but can be distinguished by the red style compared with the yellow style of G. alpina 'Grampians Gold'. The yellow-green colouration of the stigmatic plate extends along theback of the stigma for about 4mm.
Cultivation
This cultivar should be grown under the same conditions, needs well drained soils. as those required for G.alpina. It is hardy to both frost and drought.
