Chamelaucium uncinatum 'Wilson'
Origin
Chamelaucium 'Wilson' originated from a seedling of C. uncinatum selected by the late Mr George Wilson, a part owner of Wilson and John's Nursery at Cannington, Perth, in the 1930's. Cultivar first received by the Authority on the 9 September 1979. The applicant is Mr George Lullfitz, PO Box 34, Wanneroo, WA.
Characteristics
This cultivar forms a shrub ca. 3m tall by 3m wide. The leaves are ca. 30mm long. The average to large petalled flowers open a deep pink purple colour and as they age turn a deeper purple. When open the staminal collar is a very distinct white. The flowers average ca. 20mm in diameter. Diagnosis: The cultivar is a selected form of the species. The flower colour is deep pink purple turning deeper purple with age is its distinguishing feature. Should provide a statement contrasting the flower colour of the species with the cultivar.
Cultivation
Tolerates a wide range of growing conditions and soil types as long as they are well drained. Widely grown in suitable conditions throughout Australia. Drought tolerance good, frost tolerant if given some protection, light frosts are known to damage flowers and young growth.
