- Origin
- Grevillea 'Ivanhoe' is a presumed hybrid between G. longifolia and G. caleyi. The history of this cultivar is vague but it is believed to have been a seedling which arose in the garden of a Mr Ivo Hammet or a Mr Ray Savage of the suburb of Ivanhoe, Melbourne, Victoria. The cultivar was appropriately named G. 'Ivanhoe' by members of the Society for Growing Australian Plants. The late Mr Ivo Hammet was a pioneer native plant grower. Cultivar first received by the Authority on 13 September 1967.
- Characteristics
- The cultivar is thought to be a hybrid between G. longifolia and G. caleyi. A vigorous cultivar with dense habit, growing up to 3 m high by 4 m across. Branches tend to be held horizontally. Leaves are deeply and more or less regularly toothed up to 10 cm long and 20 mm wide. Flowers are red in toothbrush-like racemes up to 50 mm long. Foliage is intermediate between the parents and habit is rather denser and more vigorous than either parent. - Cultivation
- This cultivar has been available commercially for many years and is also available in the USA. It is hardy, long-flowering screen plant for most soils in full sun or partial shade. It must be propagated from cuttings. It is also a good bird attractor and quite frost hardy. Regular pruning will control growth. It is grown commercially for its foliage.
