- Origin
- Kennedia 'Minstrel' arose from Kennedia nigricans seed sown at Goldup Nursery in 1983. The cultivar name refers to the dark and pale colouration of the flowers. The cultivar was first received by the Authority in September 1985. Registration applied for by Goldup Nurseries of Mt Evelyn, Victoria.
- Characteristics
- The flower colour is the only notable difference of this cultivar. All other features are the same as Kennedia nigricans. Diagnosis: The flowers are black with a pale, almost white patch on the standard instead of a yellow patch.
- Cultivation
- Kennedia 'Minstrel' grows as for K. nigricans. It has been grown in cultivation since 1983 and has proved hardy to drought. Its frost hardiness has not been fully tested, though it can be expected to be fairly tender to frost and cold in some areas, depending on their severity. Like the more usual form of K. nigricans the cultivar grows very vigorously and is a useful plant for banks, fences and trellises and also under trees where other plants may be difficult to establish. The cultivar must be propagated vegetatively.
