Cultivar Name
Agonis flexuosa 'Variegata'
Origin
This cultivar has been grown commercially for many years but its origin is obscure. The specimen submitted for registration is from a plant at Burnley Horticultural College, Richmond, Victoria, received 15 June 1978.
Characteristics
Diagnosis: Agonis 'Variegata' differs from other known forms of this species in its variegated leaves. The variegation consists of a yellow border varying in width from 0.5-1mm, and a pale green mid portion from 1-2mm broad with a darker midrib in some leaves. Reversion to normal leaves can occur as is demonstrated on the specimen described here. The green leaves, produced on a lateral branchlet, are in general larger than the variegated leaves. In this specimen the former are 45-80mm long and 2-4mm broad, the variegated leaves on the other hand, are 20-50mm long and 2-4mm broad. In addition the green portion of the variegated leaves is paler than the normal leaf colour and seem to emphasis an overall less vigorous appearance. NB. In the above cultivar name the latinized form is conserved in accordance with part 'b' of article 27 in The International Code of Nomenclature of Cultivated Plants.
Cultivation
Suitable for well drained soils. Best in a sunny site but will tolerate some shade.
