Cultivar Name
Pimelea linifolia 'Diamond Head'
Origin
Pimelea 'Diamond Head' was selected from a wild population of Pimelea linifolia at Diamond Head, NSW. The selection was made by Mr Greg Lamont of the Dept. of Agriculture, Gosford, NSW. The cultivar was first received by the Authority in May 1986. Registration applied for by the NSW Dept of Agriculture.
Characteristics
This cultivar is a very compact and low growing form of the species. It grows to 0.6 metre tall by 0.4 to 0.6 metre wide. The flowers appear almost all year round and the inflorescences are from 25 - 30mm in diameter. Diagnosis: This cultivar differs from the species in its very compact habit, its floriferous nature. The leaves are larger and more rounded than for the species.
Cultivation
At the time of testing this cultivar had not been widely tested though it will probably grow well in similar conditions to those needed by P. linifolia. Subject to frost damage restraints in spring. Compact form leads to Botrytis outbreak. Requires good drainage and is resistant to salt spray. It must be vegetatively propagated to retain the cultivar form.
