Origin
Tetratheca 'Bicentennial Belle' is a cultivar selected from a natural population of Tetratheca thymifolia near Bega, NSW, in 1979 by Mr Doug Graham of Thorpdale, Victoria. The plant was then selected for commercial production and introduction by Austraflora Nurseries Pty. The cultivar was first received by the Authority in November 1985. Registration applied for by Austraflora Nurseries Pty Ltd, PO Box 146, Montrose 3765.
Characteristics
The cultivar is a dense form of the species which grows to about 0.7m tall by up to .9m wide. The cultivar suckers freely and flowers all year round. The flowers are a mauve pink in colour and are up to 2cm long. Diagnosis: Tetratheca 'Bicentennial Belle' flowers all year round and the flowers are larger than is usual ie. the petals are 20mm long compared with the usual 6-15mm long.
Cultivation
This cultivar has grown well in cultivation in Thorpdale, Victoria, in medium loam soils. It is frost hardy and has a medium level of drought tolerance. For best results some soil moisture should be available all year round.
