- Origin
- Banksia 'Limelight' is a 'sport' of a mature plant of the species Banksia ericifolia. The material was collected from a plant found growing near an expressway at Kariong, near Gosford, NSW, in 1986. The name refers to the bright lime green colour of the foliage. The cuttings were propagated by Princeton Nursery and grown on by Wirreanda Nursery, Ingleside in 1987. The application was received in December 1987. Registration was applied for by Mr. P Packham of NSW.
- Characteristics
- This cultivar has distinctive lime green foliage. The new growth and the leaf margins are a golden colour and the shoot apices are a reddish bronze. The flower colour is yellow orange. The growth rate of the cultivar is quite slow, estimated at about half that usually expected from the species in both garden and nursery situations. Ultimate height and width has not yet been assessed. Diagnosis: Banksia 'Limelight' can be distinguished by the unusual lime green of its foliage.
- Cultivation
- Banksias usually prefer sandy, free draining slightly acidic soil with low nutrient levels. A raised garden bed would be ideal. If growing Banksias in tubs, use a sandy potting mix.
