- Origin
- Chamelaucium 'Murfit Rose' was a chance seedling of C.uncinatum that arose in a cleared paddock at Waggradine (near Geraldton), Western Australia. It was selected for cultivation by G and M Murfit in 1979. The cultivar was first received by the Authority in June 1987. Registration applied for by G and M Murfit of Western Australia.
- Characteristics
- The cultivar grows to around 2.5m tall by up to 4m wide. The foliage is said to be a darker green than usual and the plant has a dense habit. The flowers are up to 22mm across, with some opening a very pale pink and the majority opening a deep rose colour. The flowers darken in colour as they age. Diagnosis: This cultivar can be distinguished from other forms of C. uncinatum by its deeper green foliage and the newly opened flowers which vary from pale pink to deep rose.
- Cultivation
- Tolerates a wide range of growing conditions and soil types as long as they are well drained. Widely grown in suitable conditions throughout Australia. Drought tolerance good, frost tolerant if given some protection, light frosts are known to damage flowers and young growth.
