Origin
Boronia 'Sunset Serenade' is a selection made from a wild population of Boronia muelleri in Gippsland. The selection was made by Mr L Hodge of Corryong, Victoria. The cultivar was first received by the Authority in August 1984. Registration applied for by Growers Australia Pty Ltd., 29 Knees Road, Park Orchards 3114.
Characteristics
This cultivar grows to about 1m tall by up to 1m wide. It is a dense bush and very floriferous. The main flowering season is from August to December though occasional flowers are found throughout the year. The flowers are up to 10mm across and are pink in colour. Diagnosis: B. muelleri 'Sunset Serenade' can be distinguished from other forms of B. muelleri by its smaller stature, denser habit and greater floriferousness.
Cultivation
This cultivar has proved to be a useful plant for use in rockeries, general garden beds and tubs since its introduction to horticulture in 1972. It grows well in full sun or semi-shaded situations. It is moderately drought resistant and is frost hardy. Propagation must be by vegetative means to preserve the cultivar form.
