- Grevillea 'Poorinda Jeanie'
- Origin
- Grevillea 'Poorinda Jeanie' is said to be a hybrid between Grevillea alpina and Grevillea juniperina.
- Characteristics
- It is an upright shrub growing to a height of about 2m. The leaves are entire and 15-20mm long by about 3-5mm wide with slender points. The upper leaf surface is slightly hairy, particularly when young, while the underside is at all times densely hairy. The leaf edges are rolled under. The flowers are formed into small clusters borne on short branchlets. The perianth is red and about 12mm long while the style is the same colour but about 20mm long. Diagnosis: This cultivar is different from Grevillea alpina in having much less hairy leaves and stems. The leaves are also sharp pointed. The perianths and styles are larger and longer than those usually seen in Grevillea alpina. Grevillea 'Poorinda Jeanie' differs from Grevillea juniperina in having wider leaves and hairs on the upper surface of the leaves. The flowers are much broader than those of Grevillea juniperina.
- Cultivation
- Grows best in well drained soils. Best in a sunny site but will tolerate some shade. It responds well to light pruning and is drought tolerant and frost hardy
